Coherent Lasercom
SA Photonics has developed SCORE (SA Photonics Coherent Optical REceiver) a proprietary coherent optical communications system that is four times more sensitive than standard optical receivers. SCORE’s increased sensitivity can be utilized to achieve lower transmit power, higher bandwidth, and a smaller optical system. This sensitivity improvement enables very high speed communications between satellites and between satellites and UAVs, necessary for the next generation of high-resolution battlefield imagery. The SCORE system is capable of achieving single wavelength communication rates of 40 Gigabits per second. By using multiple DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing), we can achieve 3.2 Terabits per second on a single communications link.
